SHIFEN SKY LANTERN

The highlight of Lantern Festival in the District of Pingxi is the Shifen Sky Lantern  – wishes are written in a Chinese Lantern and set into the sky. With this festival, the natural beauty of Shifen is seen through the presentation of the Sky Lantern tradition.

SHIFEN STATION

Shifen station is a part of the Pingxi Branch Rail Line built in 1918 to transport coal hence now recognized as a tourism route since 1992. At the Shifen Station stop, visitors are greeted by the beautiful waterfalls and streams. It is also near the home of a broad river terrace. This site is also popular as a movie location due to Shifen’s Station natural ambiance of nostalgia.

SHIFEN WATERFALL

Shifen Waterfall can be found at the Dahua Station and Shifen Station. It gained the nickname “Rainbow of Pond” as its mists paint a dazzling rainbow in the blue skies whenever the weather is sunny. The bedrock of Shifen Waterfall is also similar to North Americas’ famous Niagara Falls where its bedrock slopes in the opposite direction of the waterfall. Thus, it is also called “Taiwan’s Niagara Falls.”
